Xanadu

Wiki

Xanadu

Type: Main Sequence Star
Size: Roughly the size of the Sol
Sector: Primoris
Description:
Discovered by a British Astronomer in the late 20th Century.

Ifreet

Type: Terrestrial Planet
Size: Roughly 5/4 size of the Earth
Atmosphere: Negligible
Satellites: None
Distance From Sun: 0.42 AU
Population: >150
Language: English
Description:
This planet has very long rotations taking several months for a full day/night cycle to pass. The day side of the planet can reach temperatures in excess of 650 K while the night side can occasionally drop below 100 K. Ifreet is a center for stellar research and the night side of the planet is home to scientists and technicians setting up experiments.

Lilith

Type: Terrestrial Planet (Dwarf)
Size: Roughly Ceres
Atmosphere: None
Satellites: None
Distance from Sun: 0.74
Population: >200
Languages: Arabic and Hebrew
Description:
Basically a glorified asteroid, Lilith has become an important site for ceramic production in the system.

Eve

Type: Terrestrial Planet (Dwarf)
Size: Roughly Pluto
Atmosphere: None
Satellites: None
Distance from Sun: 0.92
Population: >100
Description:
A large asteroid that has gotten captured by Xanadu, much like its sister planet, Lilith. Rocky and desolate there is nothing of interest to be found here. That hasn’t stopped some miners and speculators from deceiving themselves that this place will amount to something.

Asteroid Belt 1

Type: Debris Field (Rock)

Ithaqua

Type: Terrestrial Planet
Size: 96/100 Earth
Atmosphere: Thin (Carbon Dioxide 80%, Oxygen 11%, Argon 4%, Nitrogen 3%, Other 2%)
Satellites: 3
Distance from Sun: 1.32
Population: ~6,000,000
Languages: Majority English, Sizable Arabic and Hebrew
Description:
Discovered by a Canadian astronomer in the late 21st Century.

Asteroid Belt 2

Type: Debris Field (Ice and Rock)
Settlements of Note: Cluster One

Cluster One

Type: Artificial (Space Station)
Size: 28 km
Distance from Sun: 2.06
Population: ~5,000
Languages: Majority Arabic, Sizable English and Hebrew
Description:
An anglophone mining company using cheap, mainly Arabic, labor established a base on the largest asteroid in the belt. Once the asteroid was mostly mined out, the company abandoned it, but not many of the workers. Bringing their families with them, they moved into the tunnels and began wrangling other asteroids. If the asteroid was large enough, once they were done mining it, they merely joined it to their makeshift space station. Over time, this vast structure has become known as Cluster One. (Other ‘clusters’ have been established in the system, but none of them are anywhere as large as Cluster One.)

Coleridge

Type: Gas Giant
Size: Roughly that of Jupiter
Atmosphere: Thick (85% Hydrogen, 9% Helium, 5% Methane, 1% Other)
Satellites: 36
Distance from Sun: 7.76
Population: None
Description:
Discovered by a team of Australian and New Zealand astronomers in the early 21st Century.

Asteroid Belt 3

Type: Debris Field (Ice and Rock, mainly Ice)

Iblis

Type: Brown Dwarf Star
Satellites: Mariner and Sheol
Distance From Sun: 666 AU
Description:
Iblis, Xanadu’s companion star never got big enough to properly ignite and only gives off IR radiation.

Sheol

Type: Terrestrial Planet
Size: Roughly 2/3 size of the Earth
Atmosphere: Negligible
Satellites: None
Distance From Sun: 6.16 AU
Population: ~12,000,000
Languages: Majority Hebrew and English, Sizable Arabic, Minority French, Farsi, Japanese, Hindi and Urdu
Description:
Sheol is considered the gateway to the Xanadu system and despite its hostile environment (Iblis gives off no visible light only IR) it has become the most populous planet in the system. Two thirds of all food eaten in the Xanadu system will have either been grown on or traded through Sheol.

Mariner

Type: Gas Giant
Size: Roughly that of Neptune
Atmosphere: Thick (87% Hydrogen, 8% Helium, 2% Methane, 3% Other)
Satellites: 19
Distance from Sun: 13.21 AU
Population: None
Description:
Discovered by a team of Australian and New Zealand astronomers in the early 21st Century.
